Shivani participated in the 35th Annual Stanford Invitational Speech Debate Tournament (international), a prestigious debate tournament that invites the top 2-3% of debaters from different countries.
Shivani really made us proud as she won 5 of her 6 rounds, with her team being in the top 23% teams of the competition. Additionally, she was the first/best Indian speaker (with the most speaker points) at the competition. Individually, she was in the top 12% of all (2-3% worldwide) international debaters present at the tournament.
As the Stanford Invitational Speech Debate Tournament website says:
“Debate is a valuable activity for students of all skill levels. Debate teaches useful skills for other academic pursuits and life more generally. Most obviously, debaters build confidence speaking in public and expressing their ideas eloquently. That comfort speaking in front of others is useful in so many areas of life, from interviews to school presentations to discussions in college seminars……..But the benefits of debating are not limited to the skills built while students are speaking—the preparation for competition teaches critical thinking and research skills, as well.”
