IB Visual and Performing Arts

Music

Music is valued as an important subject and thus music class is included in the curriculum. These lessons focus on listening, creating, appreciation and performing. The students at ÉMWS are engaged in pursuing their passions and learn to appreciate and create a wide range of musical styles, from classical to contemporary, from jazz to blues and rock & pop. The students participate annually in Winter Concert that takes place near Christmas, in many and varied performances to showcase their talent and creativity.

Dance, Drama & Theatre

‘There are no rules in art…only creativity’ – “Edna Stewart”.

Dance/Drama, like any other art form, allows our students to dive into a world of imagination and create something meaningful. Not only do they explore opportunities of performing during assemblies or annual productions, but also apply their creative thinking skills in order to plan, create and execute it to perfection.

Theatre is a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers, typically actors to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place, often a stage. The performers may communicate this experience to the audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music, and dance. Elements of art, such as painted scenery and stagecraft such as lighting are used to enhance the physicality, presence and immediacy of the experience. Whether children have the opportunity to perform in theatre productions or help out behind the scenes, studying Drama and Performing Arts not only engages with the creative side of the brain, it also provides an ideal balance in students’ patterns of study. In our school children have the opportunity to celebrate the richness and depth of human expression in all of its forms. At École, Drama and Performing Arts enhance student’s confidence and help students to improve their overall academic result.
