This term, our Grade 3 students have been diving deep into the world of literature through our interactive book group sessions. These small group discussions are designed to foster a love for reading and strengthen critical thinking and comprehension skills.

In our sessions, students are not just reading; they are learning how to understand the text more deeply. We focus on making inferences, encouraging students to think beyond what is explicitly written and consider what the author might suggest between the lines. This skill is invaluable in developing thoughtful, reflective readers.

Additionally, students are making connections—between the text and their own lives, other stories they’ve read, and even global events. We also take the time to build vocabulary through contextual understanding. Whenever students encounter unfamiliar words, they use clues from the surrounding text to infer meanings, building their vocabulary naturally and engagingly.

By participating in these book groups and comprehension activities, students are not only honing their reading skills but also developing important life skills such as critical thinking, empathy, and collaboration.

With love,
Grade 3 community
