The library at EMWS houses over 35,000 books in both Secondary and Primary School Libraries and more than 900 multi-media items (audio cassettes, videos, DVDs, CDs) and has twenty five PCs,  twelve in the Secondary library and thirteen in the Primary library respectively linked to the school network and all providing the EMWS community access to an incredible amount of information.  The library is equipped for the MYP, IGCSE,(Cambridge) and IB Curriculums.

INFORMATION LITERACY
To be successful in today’s information age it is imperative that students are information literate. Information literacy – the ability to find and use information – is the keystone of lifelong learning. Students who are information literate understand how to locate, evaluate and use information effectively. The library media program is designed to ensure that all students are effective, efficient, and ethical users of ideas and information. This goal is accomplished by:

Providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats

Providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas

By working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students EMWS library offers programmes of information literacy instruction to primary and secondary students.

Primary Library

READING FOR PLEASURE
There is a wide range of fiction for all age groups and reading abilities right from age 3 to 18.

We have picture books, easy readers, chapter books and a large collection of teen fiction. We also subscribe to 50 magazine titles providing subject information and leisure reading.

Primary classes come to the library once a week for story telling and a range of activities centred around literature appreciation and information literacy. Classes can also book the library for additional sessions for further research or instruction.

LITERATURE PROMOTION
Book Week takes place at the end of September. A different theme is chosen each year and literature and literacy-based activities are organized around the theme. Regular events include the Readathon, where students, classes and School houses compete to see who can read the most during Book Week. Guest speakers are invited into class and many parents and family come in and read to primary classes.  In addition to improve the habit of reading among the peers, we conduct book fair in December and March specifically instruct to exhibit variety of books with varied nature.

TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
EMWS library hosts a large collection of resources for teachers - for day to day teaching and on-going professional development.

LANGUAGE SUPPORT
The library has a large number of books in languages other than English to support mother tongue learning. There are many fiction and non-fiction titles in Hindi,  French and Spanish languages.
